Teaching methods of my cooperating teacher

            I observed my cooperating teacher while he’s teaching the grade 9-III about chapter 3, Labels. First, he uses the label of the product that he brought for the class and asked the students about what they can see in that label. He also uses the book as a reference while he is introducing the different elements that the students can see in a product label, activities in the book has been utilized by my cooperating teacher, he did not use other activity aside from those activities given in the books.

            I also observed that every time that my cooperating teacher asked questions he will go near the students and let the students answer while they are in their seats. Sometimes he translates other English words that he is using into Bahasa language in order for the students to understand. And he asked students to bring some materials for the next meeting in order for the students to do the task easier because they already have their materials.

            I can say that the way my cooperating teacher teaches his lesson is effective to the students because this is the strategy that the students are used to. But I want to have emphasis the way my cooperating teacher manages the misbehavior of the students because I saw other students who are talking to each other and they create noises but my cooperating teacher let them do that and continue doing his lesson.

Learning materials and innovation

            Though teachers are been long hailed as the best instructional materials ever, the needs of 21st-century learners continue to challenge teachers’ creativity and resourcefulness. The use of printed, visual, audio, and video media is one of the instructional materials that can be used to uplift the learnings of the students.

The teachers of MTsN1 Mataram also use these different learning materials in their teaching. The use of printed activity sheets from the textbooks and teachers made activity. Laptops, computers, and LCD projectors are also used in teaching.

There are lots of learning materials that can be used in teaching and uplifting students' learning but it’s in the teacher to extend and innovate these materials.

Sources of learning and technology

            MTsN1 Mataram has a library for the students to use, there are new books that can help in students learning. The school also has Natural Sciences Physics and Natural Sciences Biology Laboratory, a multimedia room where students can use computers in their learnings and researches. They also have skills room where the students can do other staff like handy crafts and etc.

            Every classroom of MTsN1 Mataram has Projectors and speakers which can be used by the teachers in their video presentation, powerpoint, and sounds in their teaching process.

Authentic assessment use by my cooperating teacher

            There are different authentic assessments used by my cooperating teacher in assessing students’ learning. My cooperating teacher uses pen and paper tests in his daily assessment and in their midterm examinations while in final semester examination they use a computer-based test. Assessment is also given to the students before and after the lesson. In one chapter they have six meetings and the 5th meeting is for assessment and the 6th meetings are for the remedial and enhancement for the students.
